Painting from photos

Had the third Drawing for Beginners Zoom session this morning. No ink in the house, so used watercolours instead. Made very slow progress.

I can't help thinking that the Watercolour Class is not aimed at beginners. The first three images so far, I have watched via Zoom because of the bronchitis. They are all far too advanced.

I made a progress collage of the new painting. I'm really pleased with how it's coming along - and so fast, too. Day 1,2 and 3.

Beginning Drawing Monday, 4 October 2021

I managed to take part in the whole of the Drawing for Beginners' Zoom session this morning. It was all about different sorts of shading.

I found it a bit tricky and managed to get the proportion of the largest arch all wrong. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the session and learned a lot.

At the end of the session, James showed us some of the drawings he'd done in preparation for a new painting.

They showed how shading can be used in monocrome as a guide to the colour version.

After lunch, I had another painting session, trying to get the colours on the flag right and adjusting the shading on the sea. There is a lot more to be done, and I hope to adjust the sky at some point.

Beachcombing Couple

Did some more of the new painting. I'm not following the numbers, although having the outlines sketched in is very helpful. I'm using the photo card to guide the colours.

Not enough light grey/green provided in the kit so both sky and sea are too dark. I'll raid my other paints to try and lighten things up when I've finished the main parts. Fairly pleased with the progress so far. It inspires me to try some of my other photos, when I've completed the drawing and watercolour classes.
